HP iPAQ hw6920 will be available for Cingular next week

Cingular today announced that it will l finally start selling HP iPAQ hw6900 series Mobile Messenger next week. This smartphone include integrated GPS hardware and software (in the form of TeleNav's GPS Navigator), integrates GSM / GPRS / EDGE wireless data network, with Wi-Fi, infrared and Bluetooth technologies.

Cingular will sell two versions of the HP iPAQ hw6900 series Mobile Messenger: the hw6925 has a built-in camera and the hw6920 comes without a camera.

Guam cellular system purchased by DoCoMo Inc

Japan-based NTT DoCoMo Inc. got the permission from U.S. law enforcement and homeland security officials to purchase Guam Cellular & Paging Inc. and Guam Wireless Telephone Co. L.L.C. The security agreement was signed on Oct. 19 between the Department of Justice, FBI and Department of Homeland Security with the Federal Communications Commission. This deal provides shows the future telecom deals involving foreign investments into or outright purchases of American telecom carriers in the post-9/11 world.

Alcatel income slipped off wireless sales

Profits of Alcatel Inc. dropped 42 percent because sales of wireless network decreased. The company net income is just $194 million after a profit of $334 million a year-ago. Annual income increased 1.4 percent year-over-year from $4.13 billion in 2005 to $4.19 billion for the same period in 2006. Sales slipped from last year's 1.372 billion to $1.249 billion. Serge Tchuruk, Alcatel's chief executive officer stated that the decrease in earnings was partly because Alcatel's customers were not eager to buy third-generation network equipment before the close of the French company's acquisition of Lucent Technologies Inc.

EV-DO Rev A already launched by Sprint Nextel Corp.

Sprint Nextel Corp. has officially launched CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A technology in San Diego market much sooner than it was initially expected. Also Sprint Nextel is going to come to 21 more markets by the end of the year. The faster network is supposed to increase revenues as well as improve new applications such as video telephony, multi-user video conferencing, real-time gaming, video streaming and high-performance push-to-talk service.

T-Mobile Hotspot @ Home is launched in Seattle

T-Mobile USA Inc made available its new T-Mobile Hotspot @ Home service to Seattle consumers. Universal Mobile Access (UMA) which allows a cell phone to make voice or data calls using pre-approved Wi-Fi hotspot instead of the cellular network. The service requires a dual-mode phone from T-Mobile USA and a special wireless router for use in the home.

Nokia and Oracle team up to deliver integrated mobility applications

Having Nokia E61 and Nokia E62 devices mobile users can now access Oracle Applications from, as Nokia announced its certification and availability of several Oracle mobile enterprise applications on the Nokia E61 and Nokia E62. There are Oracle Mobile Field Service and Oracle's Siebel Wireless in these applications.

T-Mobile going to take part in Hiwire Trial

Next month Hiwire is going to launch its DVB-H trial in the 700 MHz spectrum in Las Vegas, T-Mobile USA early signed on to participation to form part of the high-profile trial although, with no further commitment with Hiwire. By the time of the trial in December Hiwire plans to have three or four different handsets available for the trial.

Magazines and newspapers are glad to use the possibilities of the wireless offerings. Now and Forbes magazine is going to be mobile cooperating with wireless developer mdog.com will offer a wireless version of its online content. Forbes.com will provide free access to all editorial content such as breaking news, stock quotes, tearsheet data and charts.

Customers can get access via HTML and WAP from smart phones including the Motorola Inc.

Redesigned Web site from Cingular Wireless

Having redesigned their Web site Cingular Wireless L.L.C. launched its new version after cutting off some of the previous page's many links making it cleaner. Referring to the words of Cingular spokesman Ritch Blasi the site now looks more visually aesthetic which makes it easier for customers to access the products and services, also he mentioned that Cingular wants to increase the traffic to its Web site.

Ruling on ringtone licensing draws ire from music industry

WASHINGTON - Music publishers say they'll fight a federal copyright ruling that establishes a compulsory licensing model for ringtones.

The U.S. Copyright Office earlier this week granted a request by the Recording Industry Association of America Inc. to simplify the licensing of mastertones - 10- to 30-second snippets of original, full-length tunes - by establishing yet-to-be-determined statutory rates for the content.
