    Nokia To Start Naming Phones

    08 Sep 2006

Reuters is reporting that Nokia will start to call its phones by names rather than numbers. This follows similar moves by almost every other top phone manufacturer (Motorola, LG, Samsung and others). This comes after Nokia noted that it will work to make its phones thinner.

"What you will see coming from us in the future is not just a numbering system, you are going to start to see names that carry a meaning and are important to consumers," Keith Pardy, head of marketing at Nokia

Analysts have noted that consumers have a hard time recalling model numbers but have no trouble remembering iconic names like RAZR or Chocolate.

Sony Ericsson planning online music store

In an announcement that has produced more questions than answers, Sony Ericsson has hinted that they'll be opening an online music store in the coming months, largely in response to Nokia's digestion of Loudeye. Of course, parent Sony runs Connect, so it remains to be seen how (or even if) the new service will integrate with it; if it does, this could be a trick way for Sony Ericsson to get more exposure with their Walkman devices than they've managed so far in the States.
