Xiao Jinpeng, a welder at the Yingpan Iron Ore Dressing Plant in Jinta county in western China's Gansu province, was killed on June 19 when the battery in his cell phone exploded. The phone was in the man's chest pocket and reportedly was exposed to high temperatures before it blew up. Motorola officials are working with Chinese authorities to figure out what caused the explosion.

QuickOffice application, which is the mobile version of Microsoft Office, is now available on the newest Symbian OS that can be seen on the MOTORIZR Z8 cell phone. This latest version of QuickOffice offers a lot of useful features, but the coolest thing here is that all the Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents can be viewed in the original format - with the original fonts, layout, colors, lists, headers, footers, etc.

Samsung has recently introduced its SGH-L760 Mobile Blog phone in Korea. The handset is compatible with Youtube.com, Ublog.com and Buzznet.com and allows users to upload photos and videos DIRECTLY from the phone. The Mobile Blog comes with an embedded 2Mpix camera, media player and will first become available in Spain in July, and later in the rest of Europe.

For months, Shira Barlow's cell phone was flooded with wrong-number calls and text messages, mostly between 2 and 4 a.m. on weekends. Here is something totally new. It's a concept cell phone designed by a fan. There very little info about the model, but the design is simply great. The Sony Ericsson CS1i concept phone features a 7Mpix camera with 3x optical zoom and a large touch-screen display with a 320x416 resolution.

Another version of Motorola RAZR clamshell has just been released in Korea. The new RAZR Squared comes with several upgrades to keep it closer to its more up-to-date rivals. For example, the biggest pride of this model is the large dual screen: an internal 2.2" touch-screen display and an external one of 2 inches, which by the way is quite multifunctional thanks to its size allowing users to read text messages, see who is calling, navigate multimedia files and more.
