Yesterday Asus officially started rolling out KitKat for the ZenFone 4, leaving the larger, beefier 5 and 6-inch models in the lurch. But now, the ZenFone 5 and 6 are themselves treated to Android 4.4 revamps.
The company’s M.O. for delivering software updates to eager, almost desperate users remains mind-bogglingly complicated. It requires ZenFone 5 and 6 owners to track the firmware on the Asus download site, download it on a PC, then plug the phone to the computer and make the switch.
The worst thing about this procedure is you can always crash your handheld’s OS if you mistakenly try to install ZenFone 6’s patch on the 5 and vice versa.
