Microsoft didn’t tease its first non-Nokia Lumia with a pic of a front-facing camera by chance. The 535 has been unveiled, and it certainly has its flaws, but low-quality selfies aren’t one.
Like the smaller, punchier and pricier Lumia 730, the 535 comes endowed with a highly capable 5 megapixel front snapper. The Lumia selfie app is pre-installed, so it goes without saying Microsoft is targeting a fairly young crowd here.
The various color options, cyan, bright orange and bright green included, are further proof MS is going after teens, students and fashionistas in general. Too bad the large 5-inch IPS screen is mediocre, at best, boasting 960 x 540 pixels resolution.
The on-board quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 processor isn’t half bad, all things considered, and neither is the 1 gig of RAM. A bigger battery than the 1,905 mAh inside the Lumia 535 would have been nice, but Redmond cared more about the aesthetics, and 535’s slim profile.
Good thing you get microSD support, plus free 15 GB OneDrive cloud storage. Last but not least, the Microsoft Lumia 535 is offered with Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Denim software out the box.
