We’re seeing a Tesco-branded Windows 8.1 slate debut right before Black Friday, called Connect and priced at £99. That’s roughly $155, but there’s no point in making purchase plans stateside. This thing, like the Hudl and Hudl 2, is a UK exclusive.
More specifically, a Tesco exclusive, with the 7 incher unlikely to branch out to other retailers anytime soon. And yes, $155 is affordable on British shores. Almost unbelievably so for a tablet running full Windows.
Hardware-wise, the Connect feels like a featherweight next to its 8.3-inch Android cousin, packing 1 gig of RAM instead of 2. Also, the screen is nowhere near as crisp as the one on the Hudl 2, at 1,280 x 800 pixels (vs. 1,920 x 1,200).
The Connect is beefed up by a quad-core Intel Atom processor, exactly like the Hudl 2, and even edges out the Android soldier in internal storage, thanks to a 32 GB flash drive. The battery life is rated at a pithy 6 hours, and both the rear and front camera tout middling 2 MP sensors.
