Next spring Nokia declared to close a Texas-based facility Fort Worth that provides handset logistical and repair services for the American market. All in all 450 workers will be affected; 150 will transfer to Nokia's Irving , Texas , facility and about 300 Nokia workers will be discharged. The layoffs are likely to begin in December and will go on into the first quarter of next year. It wasn't still said who would provide the logistics and repair services.
Nokia mentioned that: “The outsourcing of repairs is in line with Nokia's global strategy designed to run services efficiently.”
By thus doing Nokia effectively brings to an end its presence in Fort Worth . Nokia's facility in the city's Alliance Airport industrial park will be closed, then sold.
There are still about 2,000 employees at its U.S. headquarters in Irving.
