As you probably know, T-Mobile Germany has recently started offering unlocked (contract free) iPhones for 999 Euros. Well, they are not really unlocked; you purchase a regular locked handset, and then send the phone's IMEI to Apple for unlocking. Within 24 hours they send you an e-mail saying "thank you”, and after that you just connect your iPhone to iTunes and voila... the device is now usable. The handset will be running firmware version 1.1.2.
