Sprint announced about its decision to use Qualcomm's QChat technology for its next generation Push To Talk (PTT) service giving QChat phones the possibility to communicate with each other as well as iDEN PTT handsets on Nextel network. QChat is expected to offer exceptional call set-up performance and bandwidth savings. By launching QChat in conjunction with its Revision A network, which has quality of service features and other new technology to improve speed and reliability, Sprint should be able to match the performance users expect from iDEN phones.
Sprint is going to launch the new technology in early 2008. Phones that combine CDMA for calls and data with iDEN for PTT are expected to be launched this year.
