The Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) accepted the offer from cellular providers to establish service in the city's 277 underground subway stations in the beginning of the year. Although nothing has happened and the process has stopped.
MTA representatives comment that establishing this kind of system is "complex" and would be very expensive to implement the system which would allow for service in stations but not into subway tunnels.
