Why do we need the Dream, when other HTC handsets, like Touch Diamond and Touch Pro are perfectly compatible with Google Android OS?
The latest model to get the Android port is the HTC Touch Cruise, also known as the Polaris.
Of course, the system is not so stable and functional as Windows Mobile and still needs to be worked on, but it's a start, and a good sign for those who own a handset capable of running Android.
The reason you want a G1 for android is the screen type. The G1, iPhone, and LG Prada use capacitive touch screens which respond well to your finger and swipe-gestures.
Most other touch phones (as of Oct 08) still use resistive touch, which requires pressure, and does not work well with swipes and your finger. AFAIK, this includes the entire HTC Touch line.
Don't buy another phone to run android unless it has capacitive touch!
