Sprint Nextel launched its dual mode iDEN / CDMA service available in the first two devices: the Buzz ic502 (a clamshell, certified to military specification 810F for dust, shock and vibration) and the Blend ic402.
The phones use Sprint's CDMA network for standard phone calls and data; and the iDEN network for walkie-talkie type services. Besides walkie-talkie services, the handsets also support short-range off-network walkie-talkie conversations between users with other Direct Talk-capable Nextel phones. Sprint Nextel gives its customers the possibility to choose from any Sprint plans available and get free unlimited walkie talkie service with any plan over $40.
However for the unlimited Nextel International or Group Walkie-Talkie, unlimited Mobile to Mobile, text messaging or Sprint's PowerSource Data Pack that includes unlimited data access, Web browsing PLUS 1000 Text Messages group walkie talkie and others will cost extra $10 per month.
