The FCC has approved the new Genus hybrid cellular-satellite phone by TerreStar and AT&T. With this phone one can make close-range calls over AT&T's cellular network, while being able to seemlessly swich to the satellite network for coverage in remote areas of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands and in territorial coastal waters.
The FCC documents confirmed the following features:
- Windows Mobile OS;
- Quad-band GSM/EDGE;
- Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA;
- 2.6" touchscreen;
- QWERTY keyboard;
The availability detais and cost weren't anounced, but the most likely released date is sometime in the Q1 of 2010.
