Chinese Hi-Tech Wealth announced that they have produced the world's first solar-powered cell phone. This clamshell phone features scale-like solar panels on its top side and can be charged by using various sources of light, first of all sunlight. Other companies are still working on such products. There are more then 400 million mobile phones in China, so by using solar-powered handsets the overall consumption of electricity noticeably reduces. According to Zhang Zhengyu, chairman of Hi-Tech Wealth, hundreds of millions of Yuan were invested in the technology since 2000. We expect 6 of these phones on the market this year, and another 30 in 2008.
