Sony’s Xperia SP, which will apparently stick to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean until the end of time, isn’t that old. It ain’t a pushover hardware-wise either, with a dual-core 1.7 GHz chip inside the hood, 1 GB RAM and a 4.6-inch 720p display capable of delivering solid image quality for a mid-ranger.
Sony rolled it out in April 2013, so it barely turns one this month. And the Japan-based OEM said an Android 4.4 port for the Xperia SP was “under investigation” months ago. In fact, it still is, according to this support page.
Yet odds are the upgrade will never come to light on this particular device. No one knows the reason, no one has any explanations, but maybe that’s for the best.
