Intel unveils its 64-bit Android KitKat build

Intel prepared quite a list of announcements for its IDF 2014 conference in China. The part we care about the most deals with mobile devices, which includes the unveiling of the 64-bit compliant Android 4.4 KitKat distribution.

Chances are the first Android smartphones and tablets using Intel’s 64-bit chips will be out during the second half of the year, and the chip maker did most of the work to get OEMs excited.

Targeting devices like Chromebooks and sub-$500 Windows PCs, Braswell is expected to offer better performance and power efficiency than the current Bay Trail chips. These will be system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions, built on Intel’s next-generation 14nm manufacturing process.
