According to leaked info from a couple of Korean news sources, Samsung is planning to reveal a new 12Mpix cameraphone at the upcoming MWC 2009 expo in Barcelona. They claim that mass production of the handset will begin at the end of February with the European launch expected soon thereafter.
We'll have to wait a few weeks for the official confirmation/denial of this rumor, so stay tuned.
Sony has announced today three Exmor (CMOS) camera modules for future mobile phones, including at 5, 8 and 12 Mpix ones. Besides high-res photos, all three will also be able to shoot Full HD video. NICE!
It should be noted that the 12Mpix module won't be available until March 2009. Well, we can wait. Hopefully there won't be any delays.
According to the recent reports on the Web, we'll probably see 12-20 megapixel cameraphones before 2012. Such handsets will be able to capture full HD videos with WXGA resolution. But that's a matter of 3-4 years... Right now we continue to drool on those fancy 8Mpix monsters that have appeared lately.
SEMC Blog is the source of a new rumor regarding an upcoming Sony Ericsson Cybershot phone that will supposedly have a 12.1Mpix camera. According to SEMC, the phone will be announced in Q3 2009, and released in Q4 2009. The rumor is pretty much baseless so far, but we're already familiar with several 8Mpix smartphones, so I guess it's ok to believe that a 12Mpix one is coming next.
