Espoo, Finland and Geneva, Switzerland - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) today announced the closing of their deal, announced on August 8th, to deepen their collaboration on the licensing and supply of integrated circuit designs and modem technologies for 3G and its evolution. The closing of the multifaceted agreement transfers a core part of Nokia's Integrated Circuit (IC) operations to STMicroelectronics and positions ST to design and manufacture 3G chipsets based on Nokia's modem technologies, energy management and RF (radio frequency) technology and to deliver complete solutions to Nokia and the open market.

Norway based telecom company Telenor is ready to launch its new Turbo-3G service, which should be up to 10 times faster then a regular 3G network. However, another Norwegian company TeliaSonera has been providing similar services for several months now. Guess now it's Telenor's turn. Turbo-3G will be launched in four largest cities of Norway in November.

Great news for HSDPA lovers in USA! Nokia has released a new version of its most advanced handset, the N95-3, which supports U.S. 3G HSDPA bands of 850/1900MHz. The new model operates on AT&T's 3G network and is currently available in Chicago in "silver/dark sand" color scheme and in New York in "silver/black".

Apparently, Sharp plans to release a new handset in Germany through Vodafone. The phone is called Sharp 880SH, a 3G slider supporting HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS networks, which means that users will be able watch hi-res QVGA video streams directly on the handset. Other features include a 2.2" QVGA LCD display, 2Mpix photo/video camera, a media player, of course, and FM receiver for more entertainment.
