Alcatel has announced two pastel colored phones, the OT-707 and OT-800. Both are entry-level handsets (as expected) that will be going for €95 ($120) and €100 ($126), respectively. Features include:

OT-707:

• 2.3" TFT touchscreen display, 240 x 320 pixels, 262K colors;
• Dual-band GSM/GPRS connectivity (900/1800 MHz);
• Bluetooth with A2DP;
• Music player;
• FM radio;
• 1.

O2 Wireless, a Locus Telecommunications subsidiary (not British O2), has released the new Alcatel 206. It is a basic candybar GSM cell phone available for $19, and offers 50 free minutes when activated.

In case you didn't know, Alcatel is still making phones. Today it introduced its latest model, the Alcatel OT-I650, with a built-in accelerometer. The accelerometer allows for shake control functionality, found on some high-end music handsets. In rest, the OT-I650 is an entry-level cell phone with the following specifications:

• Music player;
• FM tuner;
• Bluetooth connectivity;
• 1.

Alcatel's new OT-S211 is a low-end cell phone with an FM receiver.

It has a small 1.5" color display, no camera, no Bluetooth, and comes with the usual set of basic applications like calculator, alarm clock and phone book for up to 250 contacts. There's also T9 support and a game.

Pricing and availability details are currently unknown.

Specifications for the Alcatel OT-S211:

• Size: 98 x 44 x 12.

As promised a couple of months ago, Alcatel has once again entered the U.S. market with two very basic handsets.

They are E206a and E227a and available through Locus Telecom along with its prepaid Q2 Wireless service for "students, seniors, and trendsetters".

Definitely not the best entrance, if you ask me...

Orange subscribers now can get the new low-end Alcatel OT-E227 Clamshell Phone on a pre-pay basis for only USD$19.61, if you load it with credits worth USD$19.63, of course.

The phone looks fashionable and offers a choice of three colors including metallic rose, glossy black and fuchsia with flower pattern.

Check out one of the most basic and simplest cell phone models to date. The new Alcatel OT-E221do is a low-tech budget handset lacking in multimedia features. Of course, it's not free, as you can still make calls and send text messages.

The Alcatel OT-E221 comes in hot pink, black, glossy blue and vibrant orange colors, and will be available from Woolworths in September for just GBP14.

Profits of Alcatel Inc. dropped 42 percent because sales of wireless network decreased. The company net income is just $194 million after a profit of $334 million a year-ago. Annual income increased 1.4 percent year-over-year from $4.13 billion in 2005 to $4.19 billion for the same period in 2006. Sales slipped from last year's 1.372 billion to $1.249 billion. Serge Tchuruk, Alcatel's chief executive officer stated that the decrease in earnings was partly because Alcatel's customers were not eager to buy third-generation network equipment before the close of the French company's acquisition of Lucent Technologies Inc.
