Alltel has become the last U.S. carrier to offer an unlimited $99 voice plan.

It includes voice services only; this means no extra features such as messaging or data.

However, the company claims this isn't the best plan they have; they just wanted to widen the choice for their customers.

Apparently, Alltel will soon release the new LG Glimmer, a cool looking EV-DO slider equipped with a large 2.8" touch-sensitive display, 2Mpix camera with flash, Bluetooth and microSD card slot.

Let's just hope won't have to wait an eternity to get it.

Between February 22 and 24 Alltel will be offering a bonus of 500 free minutes to all existing and new subscribers who choose the $39.99 plan or higher. But keep in mind, the bonus is valid only for a month.

This way Alltel decided to celebrate its recent victory in the 50th run of the Daytona 500.<

Alltel subscribers who own a GPS-enabled handset will be able to use location-based services such as TeleNav GPS Navigator, Alltel Navigation, Where, and Axcess Family Finder, in 45 new metro areas across the country for no extra charge.

Thus, using LBS while roaming outside of your home network will cost you nothing, however, standard roaming charges remain in force.

Alltel began offering the LG Scoop, a messaging friendly cell phone available for $59.99 with a 2-year contract after an instant and mail-in rebate.

LG Scoop features:

• Slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a numeric keypad;
• 1.3Mpix still/video camera;
• Built-in music player;
• Bluetooth;
• GPS;
• microSD card slot (up to 4GB);
• Pre-loaded with Yahoo Messenger AOL IM;

Alltel's My Circle calling plans have been modified.

Now subscribers will be able to choose several phone numbers, contacting which will be free of charge. My Circle includes three options: 5, 10, or 20 numbers in the plan for $50, $60 or $100 respectively.

The HTC Touch has finally been launched on Alltel’s CDMA network.

The device from now on will be known as Alltel Touch, and is already available for purchase through Alltel website for $199 with a 2-year contract.

LG AX565 and LG Vu are two unannounced phone models that were spotted today at CES at the LG booth.

The first one is an Alltel-branded music-centric clamshell that features external touch pad music controls, FM transmitter, stereo Bluetooth, a 1.3Mpix camera and a microSD slot supporting up to 4GB of additional storage.

If you're an Alltel subscriber, you probably have a non-touchscreen device.

But it looks like things are about to change. Apparently, Alltel will start offering the HTC Touch next week.

However, the handset won't be cheap. If you're ready to shell out $200 with 2-year contract or about $500 contract-free than don't doubt your choice.

Alltel came up with a service called Voice2TXT (Voicemail-to-Text Service), which will allow subscribers to have their incoming voice messages transcribed and sent to their phone in a text form.

The prices start at $5 for 20 voicemail messages and go up to $20 for 100.

The service is available to all Alltel customers.
