Alltel announced it will soon release the BlackBerry 8130.

The smartphone should be available just in time for the holiday season. Its features include an integrated GPS receiver, a 2Mpix camera, media player, Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, voice recognition, trackball navigation, SureType keyboard and an external SDHC card slot.

Starting February 2008 Alltel will be offering a new free Parental Controls service, which will allow parents to filter unwanted web content on their children's mobile phones, including pornography, gambling, weapons and violence from their accounts on Alltel website.

The service will be run by Bytemobile and will use the content filtering database and the dynamic rating feature to cover both new and unrated sites.

FCC has approved the sale of Alltel to two private investors TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners.

The deal amounted to $24.7 billion with $71.50 per share.

It should be closed by November 22.

The Motorola ROKR Z6m music phone is now available from Alltel.

This CDMA slider handset supports EV-DO data and features a 65K QVGA display, 2Mpix camera, 3.5mm stereo jack, stereo Bluetooth, integrated GPS receiver, USB interface, and a microSD card slot (up to 2GB).

The price is $129.

Alltel is now offering its subscribers access to thousands of different Wi-Fi networks across the USA from their smartphones and notebooks.

Available data plans include $10 per day, $20 per week or $30 per month.

Customers can also bundle the Wi-Fi service with EV-DO wireless data for $69.

Alltel subscribers will soon be able to get their hands on several new handsets in the nearest future.

And now by order: the first is Palm Treo 755p smartphone, not the best option to choose; next is the Blackberry Pearl 8130, which will launch along with the 755p; and the last smartphone is the one named UTStarcom 6850, probably a re-branded version of the HTC Mogul.

Following Verizon and Sprint, Alltel Wireless announced that it would carry the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone. So if you're an Alltel subscriber, you might want to get yourself one of these.

Alltel offers a new LBS application, called ‘Where’, for handsets with GPS functionality to provide users with up-to-date route and POI information, as well as real-time info on weather and traffic conditions.

It will be available for $2.99 monthly on five cell phone models at first, including Hue, LG AX8600, Samsung u520, Wafer and Wave.

Alltel Wireless has exclusively launched LG Wave (AX380) cell phone. This sleek handset has curvaceous design with deep colors that fade into black.

The new Alltel Hue cell phone manufactured by Samsung is now available online and from independent retailers across the US. The phone uses Alltel's Celltop technology to help users organize the information stored on the device and supports exchangeable faceplates. In addition, if you purchase an Alltel Hue now, you will also get an Alltel Snap flip-phone for free.
