Android 5.1 is set to roll out for Nexus devices

Google has officially announced the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus devices line-up. The new operating system brings a number of new features and improvements on board, and should hit the Nexus family soon.

With the new update, users will be able to use multiple SIM cards on devices which support them. The latest update also brings improved device protection. In case you lose your device, the thief will have to login with the associated Google account to unlock it, even after doing a factory reset.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop factory image for Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 (2013) is already published by Google.The published Android 5.0.2 factory images happen to cater for both the Wi-Fi Nexus 7 (2013) and the Nexus 10, and they happen to be live on the developer site at the moment.Regardless of which model you are going to download the build for, it will be known as build LRX22G, which is a similar build number as that released for the Nexus 7 (2012).

iOS and Android Instagram users are in for a treat as the company has updated both its iOS and Android apps with some new ways to participate in the ever-expanding Instagram universe.The update brings the ability to edit photo captions, find people to follow a and find cool photos and people to follow with an upgrade to the Explore tab.Tapping on the Explore tab will bring up interesting photos and people, and editing a simple typo on a post caption can now be completed with a simple tap.

Android 5.0 is already going to be beefing up Android Beam to allow for transfer of more file types, but it looks like Google is also working on a product that would allow file transfers between Android, iOS, and Chrome. The cross-platform file transfer system is supposedly called Co-presence.It seems like more of a project name anyway, because Co-presence has popped up in a couple APK teardowns, and Google does have a patent filed under that name as well.

Since its creation, the Amazon Appstore stood apart, banned from being offered in the official store for Android apps, Google Play, until now.When Amazon recently updated its main Android app, it got a new "Apps & Games" department that duplicates the content found in the standalone Appstore app - effectively making it both unnecessary and obsolete.Naturally, because Amazon's still delivering apps outside the confines of Google Play, you need to change your device's security settings to accept downloads from unknown sources to install them.
