Skype has released a new Skype Mobile beta, which is now compatible with Android, and available for over 100 Java-enabled phones from LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. The new app includes such features like support for Skype-to-Skype calls, instant messaging, Skype calls to landlines or mobile phones, receiving calls to your online phone number on Skype and see Skype contacts online/offline status.

Android-powered OpenMoko's Neo FreeRunner Pictured

Well, this is the proof of what we told you a while ago: a few blurry photos of the OpenMoko's Neo FreeRunner running Android as its OS. Apart from that there were no hardware changes made to the handet, and it still features:

  • 2.8" VGA display;
  • 400MHz Samsung 2442 CPU;
  • GSM/GPRS;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • Bluetooth;
  • AGPS

Still no word on pricing and availability, but that we'll find out soon enough.

Huawei Android phone Coming in Q3 2009

Huawei announced today that the company is planning to release a new Android-based smartphone in Q3 2009 in the Asia-pacific region. Other two Android handsets for that region include HTC Dream and Kogan Technologies’ Agora, which will hit Australia on January 29.

Samsung's Android phone to be released by June on Sprint and T-Mobile

2009 is going to be the year of Android for sure. Today Samsung has announced its plans on releasing a new Android-based phone on both Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile US networks in Q2 next year.

Apparently, the upcoming handset will be a hybrid version of the Samsung Omnia and Instinct, or in other words, a yet another full-screen handset, the likes of which are very popular nowadays.

Here's a new video demonstrating the Android OS running on an HTC Touch smartphone. As seen, it runs pretty smooth, but the best thing about Android in this case is that you'll be able to return to Windows Mobile anytime by simply restarting your handset. Ain't it cool?

Google has launched its new Android Dev Phone 1, an unlocked Android-based handset meant especially for application developers. The phone will feature a 3Mpix camera, support for Wi-Fi and GPS, as well as quad-band GSM/EDGE networks, and will be available for $399 + $25 developer registration fee.
