New Samsung Wave 578 revealed at MWC 2011

A new Samsung Wave 578 was announced at MWC 2011.

This device runs Bada 2.0 OS and comes with built in Near Field Communication (NFC) chipset for mobile payment.

It is a strongly mid-range smartphone with 3.2-inch WQVGA touch screen, 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 3.0 and built in WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.

Wave 578 will be available in most regions from May 2011.

Samsung launched its Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro Bada handsets in Russia, known locally as Wave 525 and Wave 533. Both will hit the Russian market in September, when interested users will be able to grab them for 9,000 Rubles (about $300) for the Wave 2, and 10,000 Rubles ($330) for the Wave 2 Pro.Specs wise, both phones will come with:

The toolset is free for download and is available to anyone willing to make his own addition to the software. Samsung has confirmed that its much anticipated Super AMOLED Bada-powered Wave handset will be available in the UK next month, and they have no plans on releasing it earlier. Samsung Bada S8200 and Galaxy2

Samsung's is planning to release two phones called Bada S8200 and Galaxy2 that could match the power of Nexus One (not that it's very powerful). They both feature Snapdragon 1GHz CPU's, 3.7" WVGA AMOLED touchscreens, Wi-Fi, GPS, HSPA support, and 5Mpix cameras. The former will cost €450 (roughly $650), while the latter will be priced at €400 ($575).

Samsung Bada Details

Samsung provided some more info about its upcoming Bada OS for feature phones:

  • The OS is based on Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 UI;
  • TouchWiz 3.0 UI will be based partially on Flash, and developers can make use of C++ to write for it;
  • The majority of the company's touchphones will use Bada in the future;
  • The OS provides support for service-centric features such as location-based services, social networking, device sync, content management, and commerce services;
  • highly customizable by network operators, so they can make it their own;
  • The first handsets should hit the market in the first half of 2010.

The handset you see on the picture could be the first phone to run Samsung's new Bada OS. That's according to Mobile Phone Helpdesk Europe. However, the authenticity of the above photo is not confirmed, so it also could be fake. But let's assume that were looking at the real thing. What are your thoughts?
