Water-Powered Phones from Samsung By 2010

Samsung has developed a new technology that will allow using water as "fuel" for your phones, i.e. a water-powered battery.

Here's how it works: water contacts a metal plate - this will create hydrogen. Then hydrogen goes into a fuel cell, where it reacts with oxygen and generates electrical energy. This reaction can generate up to 3 watts of power, which is enough for a cell phone.

Phone Batteries to Use Kinetic Energy for Charging

M2E Power came up with the idea of charging cell phone batteries by using kinetic energy, or the electricity produced by natural motions, for instance when simply moving your hands.

The company claims that such batteries will provide up to 7 times more energy than standard ones, while having the same price, and will be available by 2010.

Nokia's Advisory on BL-5C Batteries

Nokia recalls its BL-5C batteries manufactured by Japanese Matsushita (Panasonic) in the period of December 2005 - November 2006. The company claims these batteries can overheat and advices users to replace them. There are 46 million of them in total.

The following Nokia's phone models might have included the BL-5C battery:

  • 1100, 1100c, 1101, 1108, 1110, 1112, 1255, 1315, 1600
  • 2112, 2118, 2255, 2272, 2275, 2300, 2300c, 2310, 2355, 2600, 2610, 2610b, 2626

Sprint announced today that it will begin offering new portable battery-driven chargers for wireless phones, giving its customers the power to charge their phones on the go.

The Energizer "Energi To Go" portable, battery-driven charger uses a single-barrel design made of durable spun aluminum and a patented intelligent control chip that maximizes power transfer from the charger to the phone.
