BlackBerry 8820 Coming Soon

Research In Motion (RIM) presents its latest BlackBerry 8820 smartphone, the first BlackBerry combining EDGE/GPRS/GSM and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g networks in a single device, allowing users to switch between them.

The device receives the thinnest RIM smartphone design and comes equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, large 320x240 display, and trackball navigation system.

RIM BlackBerry 8820 with Wi-Fi

The new BlackBerry 8820 uses Wi-Fi connectivity for accessing the web. It wasn't officially announced, so there is very little info about it. We know that 8820 doesn't differ much from 8800, and comes with a landscape display and QWERTY keyboard. The camera is lacking, not sure about the memory slot.

The first carrier to offer the device is also unknown.

BlackBerry 8830 World Edition on Verizon

The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone is now available on the Verizon Network. The device is the first on the network to use the new "always-on, always connected" Global BlackBerry service, allowing its usage in most parts of the world.

  • Voice Activated Dialing (VAD)
  • Bluetooth

Research In Motion will soon start selling BlackBerries with both cellular and Wi-Fi capabilities.

The exact date of the release is unknown. All we now is that these devices should appear sometime in the second half of this year, according to RIM co-CEO’s words.

But it is known that it supports both CDMA in the U.S. and GSM in Australia and other countries.
