Universal Flash Memory Card

Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson have joined forces to develop a universal flash memory card that can be used in any digital device regardless of manufacturer.

It will use the Universal Flash Storage technology, which will make it a lot faster and more efficient, and should appear in 2009.

Hybrid – data card from Helio

Helio (MVNO) declared a new data card – the Hybrid and thus becoming the first mobile virtual operator who can offer such a card. Sierra AirCard 580 represents a base off for the card. Connectivity of Helio's Hybrid card is only EV-DO Rev 0. Its software allows a connection between WiFi and the data card for Windows notebooks (those that have an in-built WiFi).

$85 monthly is a cost for unlimited data access with the Hybrid and the card is provided for free with a 2-year activation.

SanDisk announces 4GB miniSDHC card

SanDisk Corporation has extended its card capacity and today announced a 4-gigabyte miniSD High Capacity (SDHC ™ ) flash card at the CTIA Wireless Show.

The 4GB SanDisk miniSDHC card will be able to provide the fast speed and large capacity required to support digital imaging, music and video record/playback functions as well as mobile television and videogames.

Verizon Wireless ships ExpressCard style EV-DO card

Verizon Wireless has started to ship the Novatel Wireless V640 ExpressCard/34. Previously the company only sold data cards in the older PCMCIA format and owners of notebooks with the new ExpressCard slot were out of luck. The card is available now and will be in retail stores starting August 24. It retails for $179.99/$229.99 with a two or one year service agreement respectively.

Nearly half the size of standard PC Cards, Novatel Wireless' V640 is a compact and convenient product for mobile notebook users, featuring plug-n- play so that the ExpressCard can be plugged in or removed at any time.
