Unlimited Messaging from Cingular

AT&T (Cingular) recently announced two new unlimited messaging and data plans. - Unlimited text and multimedia messaging for $20 per month. - Media bundle (including unlimited messaging and data transfer) for $40 per month. Subscribers can also add unlimited messaging to other AT&T subscribers (unlimited M2M) using any of the two plans for just $5 per month.

Promotions from Verizon Wireless and Cingular

Verizon Wireless and Cingular are still in retail battle about promotional efforts of popular handsets. Major carriers are trying to win customers with a mix of price and phone.

The matter is like this: AT&T Inc.’s Cingular division offering LG’s CU400, a W-CDMA phone, for free with a two-year contract, at the same time Verizon Wireless offering customers discounts on three Motorola phones.

BlackBerry 8800 from Cingular

The new RIM BlackBerry 8800 is offered by AT&T Cingular. The new device is a hi-end phone with some Pearl features being the successor of the earlier known 8700.

This phone is stylish, black device having some metal elements and a small Pearl trackball. The 8800 is BlackBerry phone with memory card slot and multimedia player, and the built-in GPS. AT&T offers the BlackBerry 8800 for $299 after mail-in rebate and 2-year contract.

Cingular 3G in Largest US Cities

Cingular launched 3G in 160 markets across the US including Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York, Seattle, San Francisco so as this number surpasses Cingular's expectation of a year ago.

You can see 3G coverage of upgraded cities available using zoom in to view a specific city. Although, Los Angeles still do not have 3G coverage.

Saturday Night Live mobile from Cingular

Cingular with NBC Universal signed an agreement for mobile rights to Saturday Night Live. Cingular customers with 3G handsets can take advantage of SNL Mobile. The content is included at no additional cost in Media Net Unlimited which costs $19.99 per month.

Subscribers of Cingular Video will have access to an evolving library of more than 100 video shorts with duration of 2-3min from current and classic SNL episodes.

Cingular phones with MySpace enhanced functionality

All Cingular customers are going to be offered by Cingular Wireless and MySpace.com, who announced about their partnership, enhanced MySpace functionality to via their mobile phones. This gives Cingular's customers exclusive access to MySpace Mobile's tool set including the ability to edit MySpace profiles, view and add friends, post photos and blogs, send and receive MySpace messages, and more from the mobile phone through a Java application for $2.

Cingular making a trial of a PayPass mobile payments service

Cingular is teaming with Nokia and Citigroup and MasterCard Worldwide to trial, from three to six months, new phones that have MasterCard PayPass contactless payment capability that will help the companies evaluate the speed and convenience of the "tap and go" payments using mobile phones. The participants will get a Nokia handset with "near-field communication" (NFC) technology and the MasterCard PayPass payment function built in.

Cingular increases SMS price to 15 cents

The price for an SMS message will constitute a 50% price increase Cingular announced . From January 21st SMS messages will cost 15 cents for both sending and receiving. The same move was made by Sprint back in October.

Although, the price increase is high, Cingular customers will not be able to cancel their contracts.

Cingular going to launch Nokia N75

By hearsay Cingular is going to launch the Nokia N75 . The N75 will be the first N-Series device available directly from a US carrier. These N-Series phones are quite powerful, and Nokia doesn't even call them phones, but call them a "mobile computer". Unfortunately the device supports only UMTS.

The list of features N75 possesses is:

  • S60 3rd Edition (Symbian OS)
  • Quad-band GSM + EDGE + UMTS (3G)
  • Smallish size: 95 x 52 x 20mm
  • QVGA screen with 16 million colors
  • Bluetooth 2.
