Mozilla is currently working on the latest version of the Metro/Modern user interface port, and right now, it seems to be on track for a release later in January next year.The online meeting notes for the Mozilla team members do show a rather interesting screenshot – that of a new start screen user interface for Firefox for Windows 8.The screen itself will show off any bookmarks which might be set up, in addition to the sites which are visited the most by one particular Firefox user, as well as how one is able to access tabs simply be right-clicking or by pulling them down with a finger, assuming one is running it on a touchscreen enabled device.

Firefox OS phones not coming to the U.S. soon

Bad news if you live in the U.S. and have hoped to get a Firefox OS-based smartphone, as the company has no plans to sell its gear in America anytime soon though you can always buy their phones through importers.Speaking to CNet, Mozilla’s Mitchell Baker stresses Firefox OS’s focus on the emerging markets of the world where price matters the most.“Currently, there are no plans to launch in the US,” Baker said during a fireside-style conversation in front of an audience of around 100 people.

Mozilla has updated Firefox for Android with a new improved Guest Browsing mode.It allows other people to use your phone or tablet without being able to access your personal information like browsing history, bookmarks, passwords, form data and/or open tabs.To enable Guest Browsing, just tap on the Firefox Menu button, then “Tools” and tap “New Guest Session.” Friends can exit the guest browsing session by tapping on the Menu button and then selecting “Exit Guest Session.

Firefox for Android Beta getting some improvements

Mozilla shows no signs of slowing down - it just announced a new version of Firefox for Android Beta, which is ready for download and testing.

The update brings a raft of new features and improvements, includingWebRTC support for real-time web communications, a new Reader and Reading List with enhanced functionality, NFC Bump to share URLs on compatible phones, a Quickshare menu to share content with other apps and additional languages (Catalan-Spanish, British-English and Swedish) for a total of 24.

Mozilla "Fennec" alpha browser now available for Android and Nokia N900

Mozilla has issued alpha versions of its Firefox Mobile browser, better known as Fennec, for Nokia N900 and Android powered smartphones. Fennec for Android works on Android 2.0 or later and requires 30MB of available internal storage. There are both ARMv7 and ARMv5 CPU optimized builds available. Also, expect some bugs to occur, since its an alpha build.

Mozilla has issued the Firefox 1.1 beta for Maemo devices. New key features include portrait browsing, form auto-complete, a context menu, volume key zoom, and the capability to save pages straight to PDF. If you don't have a N810 or N900, you can download the browser for Windows, Mac OS, or Linux and check it out.

Good news for Nokia N900 and N810 users: Mozilla has released the first official verison (1.0) of the Firefox for Mobile browser, which is now available for download.New features include Weave Sync, which syncs your bookmarks, tabs, history and passwords across devices, Flash support (disabled by default due to high resourse usage), and more.

Firefox RC3 for Maemo Launched

Mozilla launched the third Release Candidate version of its Firefox browser for Maemo-based devices. Some brief highlights: improved overall performance, including more responsive panning and faster zooming in on web pages, the Awesome Bar now pops up faster when you tap on it. Note that plug-ins are now disabled by default (due to slowdowns), but you can always enable them in the app's settings.

According to CNET, Mozilla is planning to deliver its mobile Firefox (aka Fennec) browser to the Android OS. About a year ago Mozilla said that Java was too limited in terms of functionality, so they refused to use it, but since Google has recently announced the Android NDK (Native Development Kit) v1.0, which should enable developers to write programs running in the operating system’s Linux-based layer, they should have no problem compiling an Android version of the Fennec.
