T-Mobile Garminfone for $200

T-Mobile has announced that this month they will start selling the Android-based Garminfone handset from Garmin. It will support the full set of Garmin navigation features, and will be preloaded with Facebook and Twitter apps. T-Mobile will sell the device for $200 after rebate with new agreement and qualifying plan, or for $450 without commitments.

And another navigation-centric phone from Garmin-Asus, this time WM-based. The Garmin-Asus nuvifone M10 will be launched in the first half of 2010, and will have the following features:

  • Windows Mobile 6.5.3;
  • 600MHz Qualcomm MSM 7227 CPU;
  • 512MB of both RAM and ROM;
  • 4GB of integrated storage;
  • 3.5" WVGA touchsc

Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 Specs

The new Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 is the first phone in the series to be running Android. The manufacturers claim that the A50 brings "more location technology than any other smartphone" with a multitude of location-aware apps and a highly sensitive GPS receiver. Features include:

  • Android 1.6 OS;
  • 3.5" HVGA 480x320 capacitive touchscreen;
  • Custom finger-friendly UI;
  • 4GB of internal storage;
  • microSD expansion;
  • Accelerometer;
  • Garmin turn-by-turn navigation;
  • Qualcomm's gpsOne platform for SatNav;
  • On-device sync with Microsoft Exchange server;
  • Google voice, Maps with Street View, Gmail, YouTube, and Android Market;
  • 3Mpix autofocus camera with geo-tagging

The A50 will launch in Europe in the first half of 2010 though pricing has not been announced.

Rumor: Garmin-Asus to Unveil Android-powered smartphone at MWC

Apparently, there's another smartphone coming soon from Garmin-Asus, but this time it'll be powered by Android.According to DigiTimes, the joint venture will reveal the phone at this year's MWC show, while the total number of their devices should reach 4-5 units by the end of the year, all running either Windows Mobile or Android.

Owners of the Garmin-ASUS M20 can finally update their handset to Windows Mobile 6.5. Apart from that, the phone will become available in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech, Turkey, and other markets (excluding North America and Western Europe) by the end of 2009.

Garmin Android-based handset Coming in 2010?

Garmin has announced their plans on releasing an Android-based handset in 2010 at an event where the company reported their financial results for the Q3 2009 last week. They didn't reveal any info on the phone's features or pricing, so that's all we know for now. Stay tuned for more details.
