Google confirmed today it would participate in the FCC 700 MHz spectrum auction that will start on January 24, 2008. It has chosen the "C" block of spectrum, and will be bidding alone, without any partners. The deadline for filling an application to take part in the event is December 3. The company said it will take care of all the necessary paperwork with the FCC on Monday.

Google has released a new beta version of its Mobile Maps application for BlackBerries, Nokia S60 3rd Edition and Windows Mobile smartphones. This version includes a service called location finder, which uses cell towers to pinpoint user's location. It consumes less power than GPS, works much faster, and can be used indoors.

Google has updated its Google Maps application for Windows Mobile OS to version 1.7.1.4. The new built is a stand-alone native WM application, which offers several changes over the previous versions including functional route mapping and clearly marked turn-points on every loaded map. The search giant's mobile platform will be inexpensive and easily customizable, so carriers will be able to adapt it to their requirements. According to Wall Street Journal, Google will announce its new operation system in mid-November and the first handsets to feature it will be available in sometime in 2008.

The interface includes “Recent Documents” inlay at the top and “Your Documents” at the bottom, as well as a "Search Docs" bar.
