It looks like ASUS intends to become a major Pocket PC and smartphone maker. Recently at CeBIT the company showcased four of its new handsets, one of which is the touchscreen communicator P560.

ASUS P560 specifications:

• Support for GSM (quad-band)/GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA networks;
• Windows Mobile 6.

The new GSM communicator HTC P3470, also known as Pharos is the successor to the old P3300 model, which offers updated features at the same cost.

It will be available in early/mid May at a price of $550-600. The only downside is the lack of FM radio and, especially, Wi-Fi connectivity, which is a deal breaker for some people.

Boost Mobile has added the third Motorola phone to its portfolio.

The new MOTOKRZR is the most expensive handset the carrier currently offers, and is available for $249.99.

Regarding its specs, there is a 1.3Mpix camera with 4x digital zoom on-board, as well as built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth, and a microSD memory slot.

The new Asus P320, also known as the Galaxi Mini comes with the following specifications:

It was a major blow, but today the company has announced the new i550w, the same i550 model only updated with Wi-Fi connectivity.

 

Vodafone UK in a partnership with Telmap started offering a new mobile navigation service to its subscribers, called Sat Nav.

It delivers full GPS experience on your mobile handset, renders maps in 3D, and provides instant live traffic alerts and POIs. Currently the service is compatible with three GPS-enabled handsets from the carrier: Nokia N95 (including 8GB version), Nokia 6110, and the BlackBerry Pearl 8100, which comes with 1-year subscription for Sat Nav.

Alltel subscribers who own a GPS-enabled handset will be able to use location-based services such as TeleNav GPS Navigator, Alltel Navigation, Where, and Axcess Family Finder, in 45 new metro areas across the country for no extra charge.

Thus, using LBS while roaming outside of your home network will cost you nothing, however, standard roaming charges remain in force.

Vodafone is in the process of removing from stock its branded Nokia 6110 Navigator handsets.

The company received a lot of complaints from its UK subscribers about a glitch in the phone's GPS application, which freezes the device. The officials claim that most of the faulty 6110's have already been recalled, and the rest will disappear from shells in the nearest future.

Gigabyte presented a couple of new G-Smart series handsets at the MWC show today, one of which was the MS800.

It is a 3.5G-capable GPS-enabled smartphone powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. The release is scheduled on Spring 2008.
