FCC has approved the successor to the Eten 600 smartphone, the new Eten 650. The new model is a GSM handset, which runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS, operates on Samsung SC3 2442 500MHz processor, and features a VGA display, GPS receiver, Wi-Fi, FM wireless set, Bluetooth and an integrated digicam.

RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 8110 Pearl is the latest device in this line-up. Like the 8130 model it will come with an integrated GPS receiver, and will probably support 3G networks. It should be available in early 2008, which means after Christmas, unfortunately. We know almost nothing about the device right now, but we'll keep you informed of any developments.

The new HTC Touch Cruise is the company's third touch-screen smartphone since the first Touch has been released. The Japanese Defense Ministry made a suggestion on thursday regarding the requirement of GPS-enabled cell phones for its staff, in particular senior bureaucrats and senior Self-Defense Forces officers, so that they could be immidiately located when necessary. As expected, bureaucrats didn't like the idea.

AOL has launched several new services today, among which are the ability to send instant messages to AIM users using short codes, and two services for Windows Mobile - MapQuest and Moviefone. The upgraded friend finder service allows finding AIM buddies via GPS on MapQuest maps in real time. In addition, AOL has added integrated search function to its WAP site.

The UK-based company Blue Tree Services has developed a software program transforming an ordinary GPS phone into a GPS tracker, which allows users to track the current location of anyone who is using a cell phone or a PDA. Its accuracy is only 4 meters in all directions, which is very accurate. The software is entitled KoolTrax and costs GBP40 (approximately $80).

Called W53H, the handset is 14.2mm thin and comes with a 1Seg receiver, 2.8" OLED QVGA display, a 2Mpix camera, and an integrated GPS navigator.
