According to some sources, Bell and Telus are ready to launch their GSM networks, and will start ofering transition plans in the near future to take up a better position against their main rival Rogers and to get cooler handsets. It is not known, though, whether they will offer HSPA connectivity or move strait to UMTS LTE.

LG Electronics has recently announced their new L750ie HSDPA phone in Korea.
It should hit the markets sometime in August. One of the distinguishing features of this phone is the incorporation of 4 hot keys under the display. Here are some specs of the phone:

Yesterday at CES Motorola announced that its new MOTORAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition phone is available for pre-order at MOTO STORE for $679.99, and shipments will start on January 31st. The package will also include the H680 Bluetooth headset. However, if you're a Sprint or Verizon customer, find yourself another luxury handset, as V8 is a GSM phone.

A new security algorithm, called A5/3, has been developed by a joint working group between the GSM Association Security Group and the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). It will provide GSM cell phone users with enhanced protection from eavesdropping, and will keep sensitive info, such as phone numbers secure. A5/3 will be also applicable for the other GSM modes, like GPRS (GEA3) and EDGE.
