T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42 is coming to 56 more markets

From this day one of the fastest 4G network, T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42, is coming to 56 more markets.

There are not so much handsets that can take advantage of these speeds. Those phones are Galaxy S 4G, Sidekick 4G and the recently-announced myTouch 4G Slide.

Now more than 170 million American residents possess the T-Mobile HSPA+ 42 network.

We’re still waiting for the appearance of the handset which can fully take advantage of these speeds.

The Huawei Sonic comes to US

Last month, the Huawei Sonic smartphone was launched in Turkey. The best thing about this handset was its cost (less than 200€) and the support of near field communication (NFC). We were wondering if the device would come to US. Now, thanks to FCC’s recent filling, we can confidently say YES. The Huawei Sonic will appear on the US market as the T-Mobile Sonic and will be able to hop on AT&T’s 3G network.

T-Mobile Doubles HSPA+ Speeds

A significant growth of HSPA speed was announced by T-Mobile.

42Mbps HSPA+ is now available in 97 markets, including some new, such as Cleveland, Columbus, Ohio, Sacramento, San Diego, etc.

At the moment the only device that can use these high speeds - is a USB modem for laptops.

T-Mobile said that it is on track to cover 150 million Americas with 42Mbps HSPA+ by the end of the 2011.

AT&T to Cover 250 Million People in HSPA+ in 2010

AT&T claims its HSPA+ network will cover almost 250 million users by the end of 2010. AT&T Operations CEO John Stankey also said that the carrier will double its 7.2Mbps speed limit on the current HSPA network.

Qualcomm completes the first 20Mbps HSPA+ data call

Qualcomm has successfully completed the world's first data call via HSPA+ network. Data throughput exceeded 20Mbps using a 5MHz band of the spectrum. HSPA+ is backwardly compatible with current UMTS, HSDPA, and HSUPA devices, has a theoretical maximum bandwidth of 42Mbps for the downlink and 22Mbps for the uplink, and will double the data capacity of the current HSPA network while trippling the voice capacity.
