Thanks to some PPCGeeks.com forum members, a couple of HTC's CDMA smartphones, such as the HTC Touch and the HTC Touch Pro can now run a hacked pre-release version of Windows Mobile 6.5. The new ROMs are now available for download at PPCGeeks.com forum, so if you're willing to risk bricking your handset, feel free to try the new OS.

XDA-Developers have managed to install Windows Mobile 6.5 on the HTC Raphael/Fuze. They say there's still much work to be done, and a number of bugs to be fixed. Anyway, it's great news, and we'd definitely try it once the final biuld is released.

Telstra will be the exclusive carrier in Australia to offer the HTC Touch HD. The handset should be launched by April 30th, and will be compatible with the NextG 850 MHz band to support local video streaming services. It will also support turn-by-turn navigation on a pay-per-use basis, or for a subscription of $15 a month. The price is 1,499 Aussie dollars (US $1,000), or $62.

Verizon's XV6900 (HTC Touch) smartphone has received an official Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM upgrade. It includes all the latest firmware updates, enables EVDO Rev. A support, and offers an updated MMS client, Microsoft Remote Desktop Application, VZNavigator support, as well as support for 16GB microSD memory cards.

If you happen to own an HTC BlueAngel pocket pc phone, then you have the possibility to try out the new Windows Mobile 6.5 Beta that has appeared today at XDA Developer forum. Currently it doesn't differ much from the existing Windows Mobile 6.1, but the final build should inlude a new interface among other things.

Today HTC has announced its Touch Cruise smartphone, bundled with a new software feature called Footprints. This feature will allow users to take notes and an audio clip associated with images taken with the phone's cam, while identifying its specific geographical location. In addition to geo-tagging images, Footprints also auto-names them with the general location or area where the picture was taken.

A blurry spy shot of what it appears to be the HTC G2 has leaked in the Web. Just when we were starting to forget about this handset... The G2 here looks real, and as we expected features a better 3.2Mpix camera, full touchscreen display, and no physical keyboard.
According to Gizmodo, the handset will be released sometime in May. We in our turn will wait for the official announcement.

Reportedly, T-Mobile will release the HTC Touch Viva as the MDA Basic on its network in early February. While this phone isn't high-end, it still offers a set of decent features such as a 2Mpix camera, GSM/EDGE, TouchFLO 2D, Wi-Fi and GPS.
