Remember we recently said that Orange will be the official carrier to offer the iPhone in France?

Well, here's an update for you.

The device will be selling UNLOCKED (!) because the French legislation disallows selling phones locked to an exclusive carrier.

The official carrier to offer the iPhone in France will be Orange.

The launch scheduled on November 29. The handset will be available in 8GB model for €399 including VAT.

All buyers will have to subscribe for one of the "dedicated rate plans".

According to leaked information, AT&T will be soon releasing several new longed-for handsets, including the LG CU920, Samsung Blackjack 2, Motorola Z9, Sony Ericsson Z750 and K850, and the new red version of the iPhone available in 4GB and 8GB models.

Apple is experiencing some problems with the launching of its iconic iPhone handset in Canada.

First of all, a Toronto-based company Comwave Telecom, which offers a set of VoIP services and products in Canada under the name iPhone, has filed an opposition with the CIPO (Canadian Intellectual Property Office) to Apple's trademark application to distribute the device in the country under its original name.

AT&T, the only carrier to offer iPhone in the U.S., will also offer a serious competitor to the Apple's handset, the LG CU920.

The new device looks almost like the iPhone, and has the same specifications, including the touch-only interface.

The only changes are 3G HSDPA support and Firefox Web browser instead of Safari.

Apparently, iPhone will soon be available in Canada.

Great, you say? Not quite.

The main problem here is that it will cost $799 (!), twice as much as in the U.S. How do you like that? Further more, the official carrier to offer the device is the one with bad reputation, Rogers Wireless.

A UK-based company GoldStriker, which specializes in adding gold to popular electronics, introduced a gold covered iPhone.

As if the original didn't look good enough...

Obviously, the new version will be more expensive, but the company didn't announce the price and ship date yet.

The video below shows an unknown upcoming Nokia handset, a potential rival to the iPhone.

As you can see it comes with almost the same touch-screen as the Apple's device, but will probably have more advanced specifications, including those lacking on the iPhone, like GPS and 3G support.

Here is a new, groundless, yet very interesting rumor for you, about some new iPhone Extreme, probably an upcoming version of the famous device, with 16GB of memory, 3G connectivity and GPS functionality.

The whole idea comes from a line in the source code on the Apple iPhone Feedback Page, where the device is mentioned (see the picture).

Both Apple and the hacker community warned owners of patched iPhones that the latest upgrade would brick the device, and advised them to wait a bit with upgrading. These warnings were mostly ignored, and now people complain that their handset became inoperable and started loosing data.
