Get ready to drool, iPhone fans. Some lucky person from Portugal has opened the box with the new iPhone 3G. We don't know how he/she got the device, but I guess we'll find it out soon enough... Just don't get too upset, as there are only three days left to go before the official release.
Update:BGR have also managed to get their hands on the highly anticipated handset.
Here's a quick update for ya: the latest version of the web-based Google Talk application is optimized for the iPhone/iPod Touch. This means you don't need an iPhone 3G to run it, just the classic iPhone, and be sure to keep the Safari browser opened it you want to stay online.
AT&T officially announced pricing plans for the iPhone 3G. The handset will become available on July 11, at 8:00 AM. New customers and those eligible for an upgrade will be able to get the phone for $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB) with a 2-year commitment.
Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade can sign a new 2-year agreement and get the iPhone 3G for $399 (8GB) or $499 (16GB).
Telstra subscribers in Australia will soon be able to get their hands on the Apple iPhone 3G. The handset will be available starting July 11 at a price of $279 for the 8GB model or $399 for the 16GB model and will come with a 2-year contract.
The carrier also announced Next G iPhone 3G plans, which start from $30 per month and include free Wi-Fi access at Telstra hotspots.
A pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 was issued by Apple for developers. The Read Me file of the iTunes installer gives a hint at a previously unannounced iPhone/iPod Touch application. Here's what it sais:
"Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.
Remember this, future iPhone 3G users in the UK: turn off the "Data Roaming" setting on your handset when traveling abroad! Why? Because O2 has gone overboard with its insane data-roaming charges. For every single megabyte you download, you'll be paying £3 (about US$6) when roaming around in the EU. Leave EU borders and the charge doubles.
Today Sprint announced they would start selling the Samsung Instinct on June 20 for just $129.99 with a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. Cheaper than the 3G iPhone, you think? Wrong... In order to activate the phone, you must subscribe for one of Sprint's unlimited data plans. And while the cheapest plan will cost you $69.99 per month (with 450 minutes of talk-time), the price for the handset becomes the same as iPhone's.
Along with the iPhone 3G Apple has announced the forthcoming availability of the 2.0 firmware update.
The update will be available in the beginning of July charge free, and will feature an enhanced calculator with scientific mode, bulk email move/delete, parental controls, contact search, and the ability to save e-mail photo attachments in the iPhone's photo gallery application.
