In case you didn't know, the iPhone Dev Team has recently pwned the iPhone 2.1 firmware, and the PwnageTool and QuickPwn for the 2.1 build are already available for download here.

Briefly: Apple has released the iPhone 2.1 firmware update today. Here are some the changes made over the previous version:

• Improved battery life management;
• Reduced backup times to iTunes;
• Improved email reliability (especially for getting mail from POP and Exchange accounts);
• Faster app installations;
• Fewer call setup failures and call drops;
• Faster text messaging, loading of contacts and more;
• Improved accuracy on the 3G signal strength display;

etc.

The new iPhone 2.1 software update is coming soon for iPhone (3G) and iPod touch. Some of its main improvements are fixed crashes, longer battery, and faster backups, but there was no word on the copy/paste function. Oh well, we'll see it on Friday. Be informed, that owners of the iPod touch will have to shell out $10 to get their player updated.

Apple has released the new iPhone 2.0.2 firmware update. It is available for download now through iTunes and supposedly fixes some bugs, which Apple didn't name.

Most of the iPhone owners remember the recently appeared “I Am Rich” application, which was pulled off the App Store today. For just $999.99 it displayed a shining ruby on the dark background and a short mantra to read about how perfect your life is.

The iPhone Dev Team has released their Pwnage Tool 2.0.2 for the new iPhone firmware version 2.0.1. As expected it only jailbreaks the device.

Developers however advice not to update to the latest firmware build if you plan to unlock your handset with the future Pwnage Tool.

iPhoneBuzz has made a comparative video analysis of iPhone 2.0 and iPhone 2.0.1 firmware versions. Overall, the latter proves to be noticeably faster than the previous. That's good, but don't rush to update your phone now.

As expected, the new iPhone firmware 2.0.1 that became available today through iTunes disables the PwnageTool 2.0, which means you won't be able to use all of your jailbroken apps. In addition, there are reports saying that even carrier-unlocked handsets have issues with the new firmware. Apple has updated the iPhone 3G baseband, which means that by moving to the new version you risk to make your handset un-unlockable in the future.

According to some rumors, Apple plans to release a mini version of the iPhone called iPhone nano. The source says should be available by Christmas at a price of $300 sans contract.

As there are still 5 months to go before Christmas, I wouldn't get too excited in your place. And by the way, no one knows whether it will be a shrinked 3G iPhone...
