Sony Ericsson is developing a new technology that will merge Java ME and Adobe Flash Lite into one single Java application.

This will allow developers to create Flash-based applications that will be able to access phone functions through Java.

APIs will be available to developers later this year.

Skype has finally released its beta mobile client for Java-enabled handsets.

The new application offers skype chat, as well as voice calls, which use your cellular network instead of VoIP, but end up much cheaper when you make international calls. Use your regular plan minutes to call abroad for just $10 per month.

Apple iPhone to Support Java Apps and Games

According to a reliable source, the new upcoming SDK for the iPhone scheduled for February 2008 release will bring Java support to the handset.

This means that Apple iPhone owners will finally be able to use and play Java applications and games on their devices. There is not much info available at the moment, but we know that the phone's processor supports hardware Java acceleration, so, all we can do now is wait for the official release.

Java Gmail client is a new application introduced from Google by means of which you can read your Gmail in an interface similar to the desktop experience.

Gmail's WAP site is also still available for users who cannot or do not wish to run Java applications. Application is available for free from Google though data charges still apply.

Motorola is going to develop Java Micro Edition software

Motorola Inc. is going to develop a Java Micro Edition software stack using the Apache License Version 2.0 hoping to unify the fractured market for Java software in cell phones. Motorola reported it would cooperate its future Java ME-based development with Apache's model of licensing and open governance. Open-source software is offered by Apache Software Foundation planning that customers and developers don't have to pay royalties on the software.
