KDDI, the third largest cellular operator in Japan announced its Summer 2008 collection of mobile handsets. A good reason to fly to Japan this summer, if you need a new phone.

Here's the list of the available devices:

• Hitachi Wooo W62H - dual-flip with 3G gaming and video capabilities. Comes in blue, silver, and black.

KDDI's researchers have managed to boost infrared transfer speeds from a theoretical limit of 4Mbps to 1Gbps, thanks to a new kind of semi-conductor laser that blinks faster than other LED systems.

They have also increased the stability of a data transfer by using a larger piece of non-volatile memory.

According to KDDI, a whole CD could be copied to a PC or phone in less than a second.
