AT&T announces a mid-range Kyocera DuraForce

Kyocera DuraForce is joining AT&T’s portfolio soon. The rugged device comes with an endorsement from Bear Grylls, who will reportedly be using it in his adventures.We’re talking about a rugged, mid-range smartphone here, one that meets Military Standard 810G specifications, and also happens to be IP68-certified for dust and water resistance. The DuraForce is very similar to Verizon’s Kyocera Brigadier but it doesn’t have the scratch-proof sapphire display.

Kyocera Hydro Life - another rugged device

Kyocera seems to be rolling out a new rugged device. Hot on the heels of Kyocera Brigadier’s Verizon intro comes the unveil of a lower-end tough guy, called Hydro Life and headed for T-Mobile and MetroPCS before the end of the month.T-Mo shall receive it on August 8, via Wal-Mart stores, and Metro is to follow suit on the 29th.The 4.5-inch IPS screen boasts modest 960 x 540 pixels resolution, the cameras are fairly humble themselves, rocking 5 and 2 MP sensors, and the 2,000 mAh battery, well, that’s actually kind of cool.

Boost Mobile have got the Kyocera Hydro Icon, which is rugged and can be completely submerged in up to one meter (3.28 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes.The device is IP57-rated and also comes with a 4.5-inch qHD screen, 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, LTE connectivity support, NFC, and 8GB of expandable storage, while Android 4.

Kyocera Verve feature phone lands at Sprint

Sprint and two of its subsidiaries, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, are launching the Kyocera Verve. It is a side-sliding feature phone made for heavy texters on a budget.The device comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) screen, 2-megapixel auto-focus camera, 256MB of RAM, 512MB of internal storage, TTY/TDD support, and GPS receiver. Perhaps more important, the Verve packs a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard that will make typing long messages easier.

Verizon’s Kyocera Hydro Elite getting maintenance update

Verizon Wireless has started rolling out maintenance update for the water-proof Kyocera Hydro Elite.The changes include:

  •     Performance tweaks, most notably in the touchscreen and touch keyboard departments
  •     UI changes that will make for an overall improved user experience
  •     Camera and audio – photos are no longer overexposed when close-ups are taken with auto-flash, and speakerphone volume is improved.

Kyocera Torque Getting Its Way To Wirefly

Kyocera Torque is now available from Wirefly for $29.99, where it is accompanied by a 2-year warranty.Wirefly decided to put it through the paces by placing the handset in a washing machine for a full 33 minute wash cycle, before it was placed in a bowl of water which was subsequently frozen for up to 15 hours. Taking a couple of hours after that for it to thaw out, the Kyocera Torque was dropped from a height of 15 feet – twice, and the Kyocera Torque passed with flying colors.

Recently announced Kyocera Honey Bee seems to draw many negative comments regarding its gaudy and bright colours.The device has two ARM Cortex A9 processors clocked at 1.2GHz, and more impressively, a pair of PowerVR SGX543 GPUs.That would be the same GPU used in the Apple A5. The iPad 2’s A5 clocked in at 1GHz while the iPhone 4S has an A5 which clocked in at 800MHz which makes the Renesas APE5R at 1.
