KDDI Unveils its Summer 2008 Phone Collection

KDDI, the third largest cellular operator in Japan announced its Summer 2008 collection of mobile handsets. A good reason to fly to Japan this summer, if you need a new phone.

Here's the list of the available devices:

  • Hitachi Wooo W62H - dual-flip with 3G gaming and video capabilities. Comes in blue, silver, and black.
  • Sharp W62SH - 16:9 WVGA screen, 3.

Kyocera announced three new low-end CDMA phones

Kyocera is known as the low-end handset manufacturer. And as expected its three latest CDMA cell phones are no exception. Check them out:

  • Neo E1100: 2.2" QVGA display, Bluetooth 2.0, BREW platform, 1.3Mpix camera and a hidden OLED out display
  • Mako S4000: two screens (internal 1.8"), VGA camera, BREW platform, Bluetooth
  • Adreno S2400: 1.

Kyocera Acquires Sanyo Mobile

Kyocera has purchased Sanyo's unprofitable mobile division for $375 million; this includes Sanyo's handset manufacturing operations and sales channels in Japan and other countries.

However, the manufacturer's brand won't be changed. This way Kyocera hopes to expand its penetration in foreign markets, especially U.

Cricket Released Kyocera Lingo

Cricket has just started offering the new Kyocera Lingo, a new text-centric clamshell also known as the M1000.

The device comes with a small external display with a numeric keypad on the outside and a larger internal display with a QWERTY keyboard on the inside. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity and a 1.

Sanyo to Sell its Handset Division to Kyocera

Sanyo has entered the final stages of negotiations to sell its unprofitable mobile handset division to Kyocera.

The talks have begun last month, but it is yet unknown when the two companies will reach the agreement.

The deal is worth about $434 million and, if signed, will make Kyocera the 7th largest cell phone manufacturer.

Kyocera works over WiMAX technology

Kyocera Wireless is going to work over a project in order to develop such new consumer electronic devices that make use of mobile WiMAX technology. Kyocera is cooperating with Runcom to provide the WiMAX marketplace with its expertise in OFDMA (orthagonal frequency-division multiplexing) and mobile WiMAX technology.

As Kyocera said that with WiMAX delivering high-speed broadband wirelessly to larger areas, it thinks some companies will end up choosing WiMAX because it will outshine current 3G data networks.

Kyocera K323 is now available from Verizon Wireless. This device is the latest that Verizon Wireless offers in time for the holiday shopping season.

K323 includes such features as:

  • VGA camera with flash
  • 128x160 pixel screen with 65k colors
  • Bluetooth
  • Speakerphone

The K323 is available from Verizon Wireless for $29.

Virgin Mobile presents clamshell Kyocera Cyclops

A new stylish white clamshell handset from Virgin Mobile was named Kyocera Cyclops with a pearl white finish. Not using service contracts and subsidize handsets heavily the company's phones are typically lower end to keep costs down.

Kyocera Cyclops has following features:

  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • TXT Tones, contact specific tones for incoming text messages
  • VAM (Virgin Mobile Audio Messaging)
  • Speakerphone

Cyclops' new VAM feature but it will allow users to set up a buddy list and send short audio clips.
