Intel’s first jump into the smartphone CPU fray seems to have turned out a lot better than expected as it challenged Nvidia and Qualcomm’s leading positions in the processor industry.Although the device is running only a single-core 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2460 processor, the figures suggest that it would be a competitor worth noticing for dual-core devices like even HTC’s latest One X.

The world’s first Intel powered smartphone has been officially launched in India.Specs include a single-core 1.6GHz Saltwell CPU with Hyper-Threading, PowerVR SGX540 GPU which clocked at 400MHz and a 32-bit dual channel LPDDR2 memory, a 4.3-inch display, a 8MP rear snapper with flash, 10fps burst mode and 1080p video recording, 1.3MP front facing camera for video chat capabilities, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, HSPA+ connectivity up to 21Mbps, HDMI out and built-in NFC.

Intel and Lava have announced the XOLO X900 Android smartphone for India, and much like the Orange Santa Clara, it will be powered by Intel’s new Medfield platform.XOLO X900 will feature a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2460 processor, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 4” 1024×600 display and will feature HSPA+ connectivity courtesy of the Intel XMM 6260 platform.It will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread preinstalled, along with support for HDMI, NFC and HD video playback.
