Palm made a deal to license the Palm OS Garnet (Palm OS 5) source code from Access and manufacturer of the Treo paid $44 million to license the OS as well as its code, including the right to make changes to the code. As we know last year Access Technologies bought PalmSource with it all rights to the Palm OS.

Today Nokia disclosed a licensing agreement with Trimble technologies that gives the first-mentioned the right of being exclusive licensee of Trimble's Global Navigation Satellite System patents in wireless consumer electronics. Trimble holds aprox. 700 of patents on finding a device's location using such technologies as GPS or assisted GPS. Having this agreement Nokia will benefit by an ability of sublicensing rights to other producers which will expand their industry leading WCDMA/UMTS and GSM patent portfolios.
