Rogers issues Android 2.1 updates for HTC Magic+, Samsung Galaxy Spica

Rogers has released an over-the-air Android 2.1 update for HTC Magic+ and Samsung Galaxy Spica. The Spica's update process is a little more complex: you need to have access to a Windows PC and download a binary and cable up to get the update installed. Too bad it's not Froyo though.

HTC Magic+ from Rogers

Rogers and HTC announced an upgraded version of the HTC Magic, whitch has the same name with a (+) sign in the end. The HTC Magic+ is almost the same as the original, except that it comes with a much-needed 3.5 mm jack, and features HTC's Sense UI on top of the Android 1.5 OS (later upgradeable). So as you can see, there's no point in buying this if you already own the first model.

Rogers releases fixes for 911 calls with Dream and Magic

Rogers has issued a fix for the 911 problem we talked about earlier for its HTC Dream and Magic handsets. Affected customers have received one month's worth of data and HTC's Sence UI with the new update. How nice of them!

Edit: the update is so "mandatory" that the company decided to disable internet access to non-upgraders.

Rogers' HTC Magic also has 911 issues

Rogers' HTC Magic has joined the HTC Dream with its "no 911 calls with GPS turned on" problem, and has been pulled from store shelves as well. Until Rogers, Google or HTC release a proper fix, we suggest you to disable GPS on your handset.

HTC Dream owners on Rogers to get a free upgrade to HTC Magic?

Apparently Rogers will be exchanging their users' handsets (on the customers' will, of cource). Owners of the HTC Dream will be offered to replace their current handset with the Android 2.1 based Magic, for FREE. Thus Dream users will get to choose whether they want a handset with the newer firmware or the one with a physical QWERTY keyboard.

We know how you HTC Magic owners were upset when you found out about the HTC Hero's Sense UI, which was not on your newly bought handset. But not all is lost! HTC Taiwan has released a ROM upgrade for it's Magic users that packs Android 1.5 (cupcake) and the Sense UI, which could indicate that firmware updates for users in other parts of the world are coming as well.
