Ubuntu powered Meizu MX4 to hit the market early 2015

The first Ubuntu-powered device will finally be available in early 2015, even though we expected to see it unveiled by the end of this year. Either the hardware “isn’t there yet”; or it’s not as easy to make everything run smoothly on a mobile phone, and then move it to the big screen experience where “regular” Ubuntu apps should run properly. In any case, the first Ubuntu-powered Meizu phone will be officially announced in the first quarter of 2015, as the two CEOs have met to share the big news with the world.

Meizu launches trade-in program for Xiaomi users Categories: Meizu, Xiaomi

There’s a war looming in China with Meizu trying to get Xiaomi users on its side. Just recently they’ve unveiled their Redmi Note competitor and now they’re launching a trade-in program targeting Xiaomi phone owners.Under the deal, users are offered a maximum of 500 Yuan (about $80) for their old Xiaomi phone and that cash can be used towards a purchase of the 64GB Meizu MX3. It makes no sense to trade-in a perfectly working Mi3, but this could be a good deal for Hongmi and Mi1 owners, which may want to switch boats.

Called Flyme OS, Meizu’s platform builds on top of the Android core adding quite a few enhancements and tweaks along the way, all of which helped made Meizu phones popular in the first place. This, of course, is still in the early phase and as far as we (don’t) know, it may never happen. Chances are Meizu will take this route as it worked so great for Xiaomi. Their MIUI interface helped the Chinese firm gain media attention outside of China and now many users all around the world want a Xiaomi phone.

It comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor, 1GB of RAM, dual-SIM capability, camera with dual LED flash, external speakers and 16GB of internal storage.
