Along with the official launch of the Windows Mobile 6.1, Microsoft has unveiled its future Windows Mobile 7 operating system.
There is no info about it yet; just to let you know it will be codenamed Photon in order not to be confused with the upcoming desktop version.

Microsoft has finally launched the highly anticipated Windows Mobile 6.1 with the new version of Internet Explorer Mobile. At the same time various major carriers and handset manufacturers announced they will upgrade their existing WM devices to the new version of the OS. Here's the list of companies:
Operators:
- Alltel: HTC PPC6800, HTC Touch;
- AT&T: Samsung BlackJack II, MOTO Q 9h global, Pantech duo, AT&T Tilt by HTC;
- Sprint: A new Palm Treo and updates for the Mogul by HTC, Touch by HTC, MOTO Q 9c, Samsung ACE;
- T-Mobile: T-Mobile MDA Ameo 16 GB, T-Mobile MDA compact IV;
Manufacturers:
- ASUS: New phones including the P320, ZX1, P560, M536 and updates for the P527, P750, M930;
- HTC: A new Touch Dual for the U.

Microsoft has announced that the much anticipated Silverlight 1.0 SDK for Windows Mobile will be available for developers starting Q2 2008.
Unfortunately, the initial release will only support Silverlight 1.0, though Silverlight
2.0 is already available for desktop browsers.
Even despite this the newly launched platform for mobile browsers should deliver a richer
multimedia experience when surfing the Web.

Finally, it happened. Nokia's S60 smartphones will now support Microsoft's Silverlight platform, the competitive technology to the Adobe Flash. This is a web-based cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in, which delivers "the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web". It is used at various websites, such as NBA.

It is a screen plug-in that uses Internet for data delivery, and currently supports news, weather, and stocks, which are displayed right on the home screen. Microsoft began its mobile advertising campaign in the US. The first ads from Bank of America, Jaguar, and Paramount Pictures have been placed on US MSN Mobile. But this is just the beginning: the company's ad-strategy presupposes expansion from mobile environment to the XBOX Live service. Until now Microsoft's mobile ads could be seen in Belgium, France, Spain, Japan, and the UK.
