Anyone can now monitor air pollution levels in a specific location directly from their mobile phones. The new cell phone add-on, called "Squirrel", measures the level of carbon monoxide and ozone polluting substances in the surrounding air and displays the results on the phone's screen. All the gathered data is also transferred to an Internet database which monitors worldwide pollution.

US Cellular has launched its new service, called Your Navigator, which brings GPS functionality to your cell phone. With Your Navigator you can get turn-by-turn directions whether driving or on foot. It also offers auto-rerouting and nearly 14 million POIs. The service is based on Networks In Motion LBS platform and is compatible with Kyocera 312 and LG 245 phones.

The world's first book written entirely using a mobile phone has just been published on Lulu.com, a site where anyone can publish their own book for print. Its author, Robert Bernocco, wrote a 384 page science fiction novel in just 17 days using only a Nokia 6630 cell phone, with the help of T9. The novel was entitled "Compagni di Viaggo", or "Fellow Travelers" in English.

It lacks a screen and comes with angled keys to ease the usage. AT&T now offers a service, called AT&T Mobile Backup. Costing just $1.99 per month it allows subscribers to keep their contact data on the company's web site, so it can be later backed up to the phone. Customers will also have the ability to sync contacts from their Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo and AOL accounts and remotely erase data in case the phone is lost or stolen.
