Sprint Nextel has sold off almost all (around 3,300) of its wireless communication towers to TowerCo for $670 million.

The officials explained that leasing the towers rather then owning them will allow the company to "better focus on its core business of providing communications services to consumers, businesses and government customers." Sprint Nextel's representative Bob Azzi also added that the transaction provides the company with "additional liquidity [for] greater flexibility in managing the company.

Sprint announced that starting July 13th its QChat-based handsets (Sanyo PRO-200 and PRO-700, Samsung Z400, and LG LX40) will become available in 14 additional markets, including:

• Phoenix, Ariz.;
• Upper Central Valley, Calif.;
• East Kentucky;
• Maine;
• Minnesota;
• Missouri;
• New Hampshire;
• Buffalo, N.

Sprint Nextel recently reported a 77% loss in profit in Q3 2007.

They lost 337,000 subscribers and made only $64 million during the previous quarter. According to Sprint, this is the biggest customer loss since 2005.

What could go wrong?

Sprint announced today that the name Nextel Direct Connect will represent Sprint's product portfolio of push-to-talk service and devices, regardless of network platform or device type. Additionally, Sprint plans to expand the Nextel Direct Connect portfolio in early 2008 with new device choices and capabilities, giving customers a wider variety of phones to meet their productivity needs.

Sprint Nextel offers the Motorola ic402. It is the second hybrid between iDEN and CDMA . The new ic402 is based on the ic502.

This Motorola phone has no external display and doesn't meet military 810f specification. It is just a plain clamshell with low-end specifications.

As you probably know, the Sanyo M1 handset was introduced by Sprint Nextel Corp. and Sanyo Corp recently.

Earlier this year Sanyo suggested it would move out of the mobile phone business and plans to sell it. Sanyo doesn't comment this. Sanyo provided the bulk of Sprint Nextel's CDMA mobile handsets so company's destiny is linked to the carrier's recent performance.

Sprint reported about the apparition of the first of Sprint Nextel combo phones. The Motorola ic502 was launched.

The ic502 uses Sprint's CDMA 1xRTT network for voice calls and data connections, but Nextel's iDen network for walkie-talkie service. Packed in the rugged clamshell body, it has the 65k color display, GPS, JAVA .

Motorola i880 was presented by Sprint Nextel on its iDEN Nextel network, the handset being an update to the Motorola i870 .

Motorola i880 includes the following features:

• 176 x 220 pixel 262k color display
• microSD card slot (64MB card included)
• 2.0 megapixel camera

Sprint Nextel Corp. has officially launched CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A technology in San Diego market much sooner than it was initially expected. Also Sprint Nextel is going to come to 21 more markets by the end of the year. The faster network is supposed to increase revenues as well as improve new applications such as video telephony, multi-user video conferencing, real-time gaming, video streaming and high-performance push-to-talk service.

Sprint Nextel announced today that it plans to use WiMax technology to power its next-generation high-speed wireless network.

The Sprint Nextel 4G mobility network will use the company's extensive 2.5 GHz spectrum holdings, which cover 85 percent of the households in the top 100 U.S. markets.

To access that network, Sprint Nextel will work with Intel, Motorola and Samsung to incorporate WiMAX technology for advanced wireless communications and help make chipsets widely available for new consumer electronics devices.
