Nextel launches Push-To-Talk Motorola i867 in Brazil

The Motorola i867 is an Android powered smartphone with Push To Talk(PTT) for iDEN technology.It has been recently launched by Nextel in Brazil. The handset features Android 2.1, integrated GPS capabilities, corporate connectivity and built in WiFi.Other features that come with the device are a 3.1” touchscreen display, music player, Bluetooth stereo technology and a 3MP camera.For now, its availability in the U.

Sprint No Longer Offers QChat devices

Scott Sloat, the spokesperson of Sprint has confirmed that the company will no longer push-to-talk phones based on Qualcomm's QChat technology, which was introduced in 2008 as an EVDO Rev. A-powered alternative to Nextel's iDEN technology. He said that Sprint Nextel's iDEN network technology has recently improved and the carrier will market its PTT services for iDEN only.

Sprint Nextel Now Offers Sanyo 3810

Sprint Nextel has recently released the new Sanyo SCP-3810. It is an entry-level clamshell that features:

  • 2.4" internal screen;
  • Hidden external LCD;
  • 1.3Mpix camera;
  • GPS (for navigation and geo-taggin images);
  • Bluetooth 2.0;
  • Mobile email;
  • Threaded SMS;
  • Picture Mail;
  • IM messaging services

The Sanyo 3810 is available for free after rebates with a new contract.

Motorola i410 Approved by FCC for Nextel

Meet the Motorola i410, a new iDEN phone that has recently been spotted at the FCC site. It is pretty ugly like all iDEN representatives, as seen on the photos, and features a small external screen, push-to-talk functionality, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity support, speakerphone, messaging and basic web access. That's about all we had to share. Pricing and availability info is not available yet.

Sprint Launches BlackBerry Curve 8350i

Today at CTIA Sprint has launched the BlackBerry 8350i, which is the first BB Curve to support Nextel’s iDEN network. The phone's features include:

  • PTT (Push-to-Talk);
  • GPS navigation;
  • Wi-Fi connectivity;
  • 2Mpix camera;
  • microSD card expansion;
  • Mobile Office software suite

It should be available this year for a yet unknown price.

Sprint Nextel sells off its comm towers to TowerCo for $670 million

Sprint Nextel has sold off almost all (around 3,300) of its wireless communication towers to TowerCo for $670 million.

The officials explained that leasing the towers rather then owning them will allow the company to "better focus on its core business of providing communications services to consumers, businesses and government customers." Sprint Nextel's representative Bob Azzi also added that the transaction provides the company with "additional liquidity [for] greater flexibility in managing the company.

Sprint's QChat Phones to be Available in 14 New markets

Sprint announced that starting July 13th its QChat-based handsets (Sanyo PRO-200 and PRO-700, Samsung Z400, and LG LX40) will become available in 14 additional markets, including:

  • Phoenix, Ariz.;
  • Upper Central Valley, Calif.;
  • East Kentucky;
  • Maine;
  • Minnesota;
  • Missouri;
  • New Hampshire;
  • Buffalo, N.

Sprint Nextel Loses Customers

Sprint Nextel recently reported a 77% loss in profit in Q3 2007.

They lost 337,000 subscribers and made only $64 million during the previous quarter. According to Sprint, this is the biggest customer loss since 2005.

Sprint to Expand its Nextel Direct Connect Portfolio with New Handsets and Improved Capabilities in 2008

Sprint announced today that the name Nextel Direct Connect will represent Sprint's product portfolio of push-to-talk service and devices, regardless of network platform or device type. Additionally, Sprint plans to expand the Nextel Direct Connect portfolio in early 2008 with new device choices and capabilities, giving customers a wider variety of phones to meet their productivity needs.
