Android 5.1 is set to roll out for Nexus devices

Google has officially announced the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus devices line-up. The new operating system brings a number of new features and improvements on board, and should hit the Nexus family soon.

With the new update, users will be able to use multiple SIM cards on devices which support them. The latest update also brings improved device protection. In case you lose your device, the thief will have to login with the associated Google account to unlock it, even after doing a factory reset.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop factory image for Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 (2013) is already published by Google.The published Android 5.0.2 factory images happen to cater for both the Wi-Fi Nexus 7 (2013) and the Nexus 10, and they happen to be live on the developer site at the moment.Regardless of which model you are going to download the build for, it will be known as build LRX22G, which is a similar build number as that released for the Nexus 7 (2012).

Google has just posted Android 5.0.1 factory images for the WiFi only models 2013 Nexus 7, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10 for those adventurous souls who are comfortable flashing the image to their devices.If you’ve got a 2012 Nexus 7 you’re out of luck for now, but we heard that Lollipop doesn’t run on that device so well so don’t be too bummed.

The first wave of sweet makeovers for Google’s Nexus family is allegedly scheduled for November 3.The Nexus 7 (both generations) and 10 are thus set to enjoy the swiftest moves up to date, with the 4 and 5 kept hanging a few extra days.Interestingly enough, the cause of this staggered rollout is reportedly cellular connectivity, which increases the difficulty of Lollipop customization.As a consequence, the LTE-enabled Nexus 7 2013 is also said to be a part of the second launch wave.

The earlier leaked HTC Volantis has cleared the regulatory barriers in South Korea and is now officially ready to be sold in the Samsung land.Korean RRA (Radio Research Agency) gave the tablet its seal of approval.Unlike earlier Nexus products that were affordable first, great second – this model will be great first, and perhaps even not that affordable.This unit will pack a top-notch hardware, pretty much making it the Android L poster child.

On Thursday, Google started sending Android 4.4.4 to stock Android models like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10.For those keeping score, the new build is KTU84P. Factory Images for the new build are available for the above mentioned devices.Don't expect any big changes. The update reportedly is nothing more than a security fix.

MediaTek unveiled its 64-bit offering a few months ago and now they seem ready for prime time.The chip maker is hoping it could help in reaching new vendors which in turn could launch devices in the Western hemisphere. At the same time, it’s also a sort of privilege to have a chip inside a Nexus device.However, we’re not sure whether this upcoming Nexus phone — which will reportedly have a price tag of $100 — will be “stuck” to the fast-growing economies or it will be available all around the world.

We’ve been telling you that Google may launch the Nexus 8 later this year. The device could easily end-up using Intel’s 64-bit quad-core chip, which was announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress.The next Nexus tablet will be unveiled alongside Android 4.5 at some point this summer, making it ready for “back to school” shopping craze. Also at that time, Intel should have its Atom “Moorefield” processor ready and start shipping it to OEMs.
