Android-powered OpenMoko's Neo FreeRunner Pictured

Well, this is the proof of what we told you a while ago: a few blurry photos of the OpenMoko's Neo FreeRunner running Android as its OS. Apart from that there were no hardware changes made to the handet, and it still features:

  • 2.8" VGA display;
  • 400MHz Samsung 2442 CPU;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • Bluetooth;
  • AGPS

Still no word on pricing and availability, but that we'll find out soon enough.

Koolu is busy porting the Android on the OpenMoko’s FreeRunner, given the open nature of the handset. They plan to release a beta build in the first week of December, but the full version will be available only in Q1 2009.

Anyway, who cares when you know you'll get to play with Google's Android on such a mediocre phone.

OpenMoko FreeRunner Launches on July 1

According to the company's officials, the OpenMoko FreeRunner handset is likely to be released in the U.S. on July 1st. By that time it should reach the american soil and start retailing.The OpenMoko FreeRunner is the successor to the Neo1973 and will be available for $399.

  • 264MB ROM;
  • 128MB RAM;
  • Bluetooth 2.

OpenMoko FreeRunner Coming this Month

OpenMoko introduced their second open-source handset called the FreeRunner.

The new model carries over the best parts of the Neo 1973, like the VGA touchscreen, but also adds features like three-axis motion detection and a faster processor.

The price is $399 for a single device, but if you need 10 or more, you'll get it for $369, each.

The launch will take place before the end of the month.

OpenMoko to Release its Second Handset

According to OpenMoko's president Sean Moss-Pultz, the company plans to launch its second phone sometime between March and April 2008.

Moreover, the Taiwanese open source handset manufacturer intends to start using its platform on other hardware devices in cooperation with other companies and hopes this business will make up to 1/3 of its overall revenues in the future.

OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner

OpenMoko announced Neo FreeRunner, an update to their previous open-source Neo 1973.

The new phone will look like the original, but will be available in two tri-band GSM variants (850/1800/1900 and 900/1800/1900) and will offer several hardware improvements, such as more powerful 500MHz CPU, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, better graphics support and motion sensors allowing for movement based user input.
