As expected, the OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner will be available for order at www.openmoko.com starting July 4. Shipping will begin on Monday, July 7. As for the price, the device will cost you $399.

According to the company's officials, the OpenMoko FreeRunner handset is likely to be released in the U.S. on July 1st. By that time it should reach the american soil and start retailing.

The OpenMoko FreeRunner is the successor to the Neo1973 and will be available for $399.

OpenMoko introduced their second open-source handset called the FreeRunner.

The new model carries over the best parts of the Neo 1973, like the VGA touchscreen, but also adds features like three-axis motion detection and a faster processor.

The price is $399 for a single device, but if you need 10 or more, you'll get it for $369, each.

The launch will take place before the end of the month.

According to OpenMoko's president Sean Moss-Pultz, the company plans to launch its second phone sometime between March and April 2008.

Moreover, the Taiwanese open source handset manufacturer intends to start using its platform on other hardware devices in cooperation with other companies and hopes this business will make up to 1/3 of its overall revenues in the future.

OpenMoko announced Neo FreeRunner, an update to their previous open-source Neo 1973.

The new phone will look like the original, but will be available in two tri-band GSM variants (850/1800/1900 and 900/1800/1900) and will offer several hardware improvements, such as more powerful 500MHz CPU, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, better graphics support and motion sensors allowing for movement based user input.
